Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) continues the production of Tulum cheese from goat milk, which it started last season, this season as well. MAKÜ Dairy Products and Technology Application and Research Center (UAM) Milk Processing Unit has started producing its products from goat milk in cooperation with goat breeders in the districts and villages of Burdur.

MAKÜ, which purchases milk from local producers for the dairy products produced in the enterprise facility established within the university, obtains the milk to be used in the production of goat Tulum cheese from goat breeders in the districts of Çavdır, Gölhisar, and Karamanlı. This cooperation not only provides economic support to local producers but also makes the production of quality dairy products possible.

Quality and Hygiene Standards at the Forefront

MAKÜ Dairy Products and Technology UAM Milk Processing Unit Production Manager Lecturer Aslı Albayrak Karaoğlu provided information about the production they carry out in their facilities. Karaoğlu, who stated that the products they produced from goat milk last season were in great demand, emphasized that they attach great importance to quality and hygiene standards in the production process. Expressing that they use the highest quality goat milk in goat Tulum cheese, Karaoğlu said: “In addition to our goat Tulum cheese, we also produce goat-cow mixed white cheese, goat cheese, goat cream, and goat-cow mixed cream. In our production, which we started as of today, creams and cheeses will be offered for sale immediately. Tulum cheeses are left to mature for 120 days and after 120 days, they will be on sale again at our MAKÜ Store at the university entrance gate and at our MAKÜ Gourmet Store located in the center.”

Production Diversity and Contribution to the Local Economy

MAKÜ Milk Processing Facility not only produces goat Tulum cheese but also various products from goat and cow milk. Products such as goat-cow mixed Tulum cheese, goat cheese, goat cream, and goat-cow mixed cream are also included in the production line. While these products are offered for sale immediately after production, Tulum cheeses are subjected to a controlled 120-day maturation process in goat skins.

This initiative of MAKÜ also makes a significant contribution to the local economy. The milk obtained from local producers not only provides a source of income for the producers but also helps to evaluate the agricultural and livestock potential of the region.

MAKÜ Products on Sale

All products produced by MAKÜ from goat milk are offered for sale at the MAKÜ Store located next to the university entrance gate and at the MAKÜ Gourmet Store located in the center. Especially the controlled matured Goat Tulum cheeses will take their place on the shelves after the 120-day process is completed.
