Harvest has been completed on 3 thousand decares of land at MAKÜ

Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University continues to contribute to both applied education and scientific research with its sustainable plant production activities carried out on approximately 3 thousand decares of agricultural land. Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar, who participated in the harvest of the 2025-2026 production season, stated that the university has created an exemplary model that integrates production with education and R&D.

Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) successfully completed the 2025-2026 season in its plant production activities on its approximately 3 thousand decares of dry agricultural land. Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar, the management team, and representatives from relevant academic units also participated in the harvest activities conducted on the university's practice fields and conducted inspections.

In the 2025-2026 production season, barley was grown on 1,500 decares, wheat on 250 decares, oats on 400 decares, and sainfoin on 350 decares of university land. To rest the soil and ensure sustainable productivity, 500 decares of land were left fallow.

While the production of cereals provides practical contributions to the university's education and research activities, it also significantly supports meeting the demand for quality grains and roughage. The sainfoin included in the production pattern strengthens the natural structure of the soil through nitrogen fixation, contributes to the balance of organic matter, and supports livestock activities with high-quality roughage production.

Throughout the production season, soil preparation, planting, fertilization, weed control, disease and pest monitoring, and harvesting activities were meticulously carried out in accordance with modern agricultural techniques and scientific principles.

Examining the harvest activities on-site, MAKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar stated that the university's agricultural practice areas are not only production areas but also important laboratories where students receive applied education and scientific research is conducted.

Rector Dalgar said, "As Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, we see agriculture and livestock as strategic priorities. By conducting production activities on our practice fields, we provide our students with an educational environment where they can transform their theoretical knowledge into practice, while also making significant contributions to the scientific work of our academics. At the same time, we protect our soil, use our natural resources efficiently, and implement practices that can serve as examples for regional producers by acting in accordance with sustainable agricultural principles."

Rector Dalgar expressed that the university's agricultural production understanding aims not only to meet today's needs but also to develop knowledge and practices that will guide the agriculture of the future, stating, "In line with our understanding of a producing university, we bring education, research, and production together under one roof. By continuously improving our agricultural production activities each year, we contribute to the needs of our university and continue to support our country's sustainable agricultural goals."
