The livestock projects carried out by Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) continue to bear fruit.

The project “Standardization and Certification for Increasing the Economic Efficiency of Dairy Cattle Enterprises” carried out by Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) has been included in the investment program by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Burdur was chosen as the pilot province for the implementation of the project. The Ministry allocated a budget of 5 million liras for the implementation of the project in 2023. With the support program to be carried out within the scope of the project, it is aimed to increase the efficiency of enterprises operating in dairy cattle breeding in Burdur.

The promotion meeting of the projects to be carried out within the framework of livestock-focused studies with the regional development mission at MAKÜ and which will guide the country's livestock sector was held. The meeting, hosted by Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Mehmet Tuğrul and held at the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, was attended by former MAKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Adem Korkmaz, who had a significant contribution to the project, along with MAKÜ Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar, Burdur Commodity Exchange President Ömer Faruk Gündüzalp, President of the Central Union of Turkish Cattle Breeders Kamil Özcan, and President of KÖYKOOP Burdur Union Osman Bütüner.

Prof. Dr. Adem Korkmaz, who attended the promotion meeting of the support program to be implemented within the scope of the projects developed during his rectorship, made a speech and expressed his satisfaction by saying, “The livestock projects we started at MAKÜ in 2016 with the mission of regional development are now taking shape. These efforts are bearing fruit for Burdur, and even for the first time in Turkey, a management model developed by a university is turning into the policy of the Ministry of Agriculture.”

At the promotion meeting of the project, Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Mehmet Tuğrul said, “Our program is a jointly prepared program with our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University. It has been decided by our Ministry to be implemented in our province as a pilot region. If this implementation is successful in our province, it will continue to be implemented throughout Turkey. We have a budget of 5 million TL for this project. With this budget, it is aimed to first classify the enterprises and then to modernize the enterprises with the aim of upgrading those below class C to class C with allowances ranging from 60% to 80% to complete the deficiencies.”

Prof. Dr. Dalgar; This Project Has No Example in Turkey

MAKÜ Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar also made a speech about the project, saying, “The studies we have been conducting under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Adem Korkmaz at our university for 5-6 years have reached a certain stage. A strategy is being followed to first implement a project produced at our university, with all intellectual property rights and registration rights made on behalf of the university, as a pilot in Burdur and then to spread it throughout Turkey. There is no example of this in Turkey. Hopefully, at the end of this project, we will report the results by certifying, supporting, and moving all dairy cattle enterprises in our region towards class A enterprises. We will present it to our Ministry, and our Ministry aims to spread this to other provinces and nationwide based on the results obtained here.”

Burdur Commodity Exchange President Ömer Faruk Gündüzalp also made a speech, saying, “These projects are of great importance in terms of showing what the producer is and ensuring efficiency. That’s why we wanted it so much. When we say what a university adds to a city, how much interest a university shows in livestock, or whether a university and livestock are compatible, MAKÜ has shown the best example of this in Burdur.”

President of the Central Union of Turkish Cattle Breeders Kamil Özcan said, “We have been involved in this project from the beginning. We have been dreaming about it with Prof. Dr. Adem Korkmaz since the first day. When we went abroad for the project, we saw firsthand the practices there, the duties of the union, what the union does, what the university does, and where the producer stands. Hopefully, we will copy and paste what we saw there to Burdur and Turkey. I thank everyone who contributed to this project.”

President of KÖYKOOP Burdur Union Osman Bütüner also made a speech, saying, “Our project is good, but we are at the beginning of the road. Hopefully, we need to work together to better explain this project to people on a district and village basis and to ensure its success. I think we can achieve success if we explain this project well. I thank everyone who contributed to the project.”
