Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) Agricultural Animal Husbandry and Food Research Application and Research Center continues to maintain the title of ‘Disease-Free Operation’ while upholding high biosecurity standards.
As a result of routine inspections and laboratory analyses conducted by the Burdur Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry teams, no infectious diseases threatening animal health, such as brucellosis and tuberculosis, have been found in the animals at MAKÜ Farm, especially in recent times. These results once again highlight MAKÜ's meticulous efforts in animal nutrition, care, and hygiene rules, showcasing exemplary practices in healthy production and sustainability in livestock farming.
Center Director Assoc. Dr. İlktan Baştan emphasized that their priorities are herd health and effective management in a statement regarding the matter, saying:
“It is not possible to talk about genetic improvement efforts such as embryo transfer in an operation where animal health cannot be protected. Therefore, we place great importance on biosecurity measures in our center. The presence of an accredited Veterinary Faculty by the European Union within our university allows for necessary health tests to be conducted in a short time. This situation creates a significant trust factor for breeders who purchase animals from us.”
Baştan recalled that breeding animals had previously been sold from MAKÜ Farm to provinces such as Bursa, Düzce, Konya, Antalya, and Denizli, stating that this is also an indication of the healthy production understanding at the center.
