MAKÜ Gerontology and Elderly Care Department students touch the lives of the elderly

Within the scope of the Village University, MAKÜ students met with elderly individuals living in the villages of Yeşildere and İbecik in the Gölhisar district.

Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Gerontology and Çavdır Vocational School Elderly Care Department students met with elderly individuals living in the villages of Yeşildere and İbecik in the Gölhisar district as part of a community-based social responsibility project. The event, held within the framework of the Village University program, aimed to support the active aging process of the elderly and increase their participation in social life.

 

Under the leadership of Head of the Gerontology Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevinç Sütlü and guided by Lecturer Özge Kutlu, the program ensured a day full of interactive and enjoyable activities with the villagers.

 

While the ping pong ball games organized within the scope of the event aimed for the elderly individuals to have fun and be mentally stimulated, activities such as cloth bag painting and ‘four colour’ supported hand skills and visual-mental activities. The bag painting activity, carried out with the participation of the villagers, was completed by painting the words ‘Village University’ on papers with colorful letters.

 

This meaningful event, organized in collaboration with gerontology students and academicians, made a positive contribution to the psycho-social development of elderly individuals. At the end of the program, certificates of appreciation were presented to the participants, and the event concluded with a group photo taken in memory of the day.

 

In statements regarding the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevinç Sütlü emphasized the importance of such field studies aimed at improving the quality of life of elderly individuals and stated that similar projects would continue in the upcoming periods.
