Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ), in line with the understanding of sustainable agriculture, has started to reap the rewards of the production activities carried out on its own lands this year as in every year. The harvest of forage crops such as barley, oats, sainfoin, and triticale, which were planted on approximately 3,000 decares of land by our university, has begun.
Producing University: MAKÜ
The production activities carried out under the leadership of the Agriculture, Livestock and Food Research Application and Research Center draw attention with environmentally friendly methods such as natural fertilization and dry farming. Our university meets the feed needs of the animals raised on its own farm with the plants it produces; by converting animal waste into natural fertilizer, it provides both environmentally friendly production and minimizes costs.
From academy to field, from field to economy
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar, who participated in the harvest process, stated that our university demonstrates its knowledge and production power together and said:
“Today, we are not just harvesting here; we are also seeing the scientific potential and production capacity of our university in the field. We carry out production in a wide and strategic area ranging from 2500 to 3000 decares at our Agriculture and Livestock Application and Research Center's application farm.”
Prof. Dr. Dalgar also emphasized that these production activities set an example not only for the university but also for regional agriculture. He stated that the agricultural lands allocated to MAKÜ at its establishment today serve rural development as well as scientific production.
“While some of the products grown meet the needs of our university, some are offered to the market with their genetic value. In this respect, we have created a sustainable, exemplary agricultural model.” he said.
In addition to our Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Hakan Öner and Prof. Dr. Ömer Tekşen, Director of the Agriculture, Livestock and Food Research Application and Research Center Assoc. Dr. İlktan Baştan, and Deputy Director Dr. Lecturer Bekir Tosun also attended the harvest ceremony.
At the end of his speech, our Rector thanked all the academic and technical staff, students, and regional farmers who contributed to university agriculture.
